PANDA (Aelurus fulgens) , a carnivorous mammal of the See also:family Procyonidae (see See also:CARNIVORA). This See also:animal, rather larger than a See also:cat, ranges from the eastern See also:Himalaya to See also:north-See also:west See also:China. In the former See also:area it is found at heights of from 7000 to 12,000 ft. above the See also:sea, among rocks and trees, and chiefly feeds on fruits and other See also:vegetable substances. Its See also:fur is of a remarkably See also:rich reddish-See also:brown See also:colour, darker below; the See also:face is See also:white, with the exception of a See also:vertical stripe of red from just above the See also:eye to the gape; there are several See also:pale rings on the tail, the tip of which is See also:black.
