PILLNITZ , a See also:

village in the See also:kingdom of See also:Saxony, situated on the right See also:bank of the See also:Elbe, 5 M. above See also:Dresden. Pop. (1905), 770. The new See also:palace of the See also:king of Saxony was built in 1818 on the site of a See also:building which was destroyed by See also:fire. The See also:place became a See also:residence of the See also:electors of Saxony about 1700, and the different parts of the palace were erected at various times during the 18th See also:century. By the See also:convention of Pillnitz in See also:August 1791 the See also:emperor See also:Leopold II. and See also:Frederick See also:William II., king of See also:Prussia, agreed to take See also:common See also:action against any attack on the See also:part of See also:France; this compact may be regarded as the basis of the first See also:coalition against that See also:country.
