In the See also:middle ages Pozzuoli was frequently sacked and also damaged by the natural See also:convulsions of 1198 and 1538. To the See also:north-See also:east of the town is the Solfatura, a See also:half See also:extinct See also:volcano See also:crater, in which sulphurous gases are exhaled.
