town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Westphalia, 22 M. by See also:rail N.W. of See also:Dortmund on the railway to See also:Munster. Pop. (1905) 44,396. In the See also:neighbour-See also:hood are extensive See also:coal-mines and See also:brick-See also:works, and the See also:industries embrace the manufacture of See also:linen, See also:beer, See also:spirits and See also:tobacco. The See also:county of Recklinghausen belonged to the archbishopric of See also:Cologne until 1803, when it passed to the See also:duke of Arenberg. It was known as the Vest Recklinghausen. In 1810 it was divided by See also:Napoleon between the See also:grand duchy of See also:Berg and See also:France, but was, in 1815, restored to the duke of Arenberg as a See also:fief under Prussian See also:sovereignty.
