SOHAM , a See also:

S.E. of See also:Ely by a: See also:branch of the See also:Great Eastern railway. Pop. (1901), 4230. It lies in the midst of the See also:flat fen See also:country. To the See also:west a See also:rich See also:tract, still known as Soham See also:Mere, marks the See also:place of one of the many wide and shallow sheets of See also:water in the See also:district now drained. The See also:church of St See also:Andrew is cruciform and had formerly a central See also:tower; the existing western tower is of See also:fine and ornate Perpendicular See also:work. The See also:body of the church, however, is mainly transitional See also:Norman with additions principally Decorated) including a beautiful See also:east window, much See also:ancient woodwork, and other details of See also:interest. The See also:grammar school See also:dates from 1687.
