TIETJENS, THERESE JOHANNE ALEXANDRA (1831--1877) , Hungarian See also:soprano vocalist, was See also:born at See also:Hamburg on the 17th of See also:July 1831. Her See also:voice was trained at Hamburg, where she made a successful debut in 1849 as Lucrezia See also:Borgia in See also:Donizetti's See also:opera. Thence she proceeded to See also:Frankfort and See also:Vienna. She sang for the first See also:time in See also:London in 1858, appearing as See also:Valentine in See also:Les See also:Huguenots. Her success was so See also:great that for the See also:rest of her See also:life she made See also:England her See also:home, and soon gained as brilliant a reputation in See also:concert and See also:oratorio See also:work as she had already won upon the See also:stage. Her voice was a dramatic soprano of magnificent quality, and her See also:powers as an actress were supreme. Her most famous parts were Fidelio, See also:Medea (in See also:Cherubim's opera) and Donna See also:Anna (in See also:Don Giovanni). She died in London on the 3rd of See also:October 1877, having endeared herself to the See also:English See also:people as much by her private virtues as by her See also:artistic gifts.
