Horace Twiss had a See also:pretty wit, and as a See also:young See also:man wrote See also:light articles for the papers; and, A going to the See also:bar, he obtained a considerable practice and became a K.C. in 1827. In 182o he was elected to See also:parliament, where, with some interruptions, he sat till 1841, holding the See also:office of under-secretary for See also:war and the colonies in 1828-183o. In 1844 he was appointed See also:vice-See also:chancellor of the duchy of Lan-caster, a well-paid See also:post which enabled him to enjoy his popularity in See also:London society. For some years he wrote for The Times, in which he first compiled the See also:parliamentary See also:summary, and his daughter married first Francis See also:Bacon (d. 184o) and then J. T. See also:Delane, both of them editors of that See also:paper. He was the author of the See also:Life (1844) of See also:Lord See also:Eldon, and other volumes. He died suddenly in London on the 4th of May 1849.
