VEJER DE LA FRONTERA , a See also:

town of See also:southern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Cadiz, on the right See also:bank of the See also:river Barbate and on the Cadiz-See also:Tarifa railway. Pop. (1900) 11,298. Vejer de la Frontera occupies a See also:low See also:hill overlooking the Straits of See also:Gibraltar and surrounded by orchards and See also:orange groves. It contains several See also:ancient churches and convents, and the See also:architecture of many of its houses recalls the See also:period of Moorish See also:rule, which lasted from 711 until the town was captured by St See also:Ferdinand of See also:Castile in 1248. See also:Agriculture and See also:fruit-farming are the See also:chief See also:industries; fighting bulls are also bred in the neighbourhood.
