He removed with his See also:father to the " New See also:Hampshire Grants " in 1763, and became prominent among the See also:young men who forcibly resisted New See also:York's claim to the territory (see See also:VERMONT). At the outbreak of the See also:War of See also:Independence, he led the detachment of " See also:Green See also:Mountain Boys " which captured See also:Crown Point (q.v.) on the 11th of May 1775, and took See also:part in the unsuccessful expedition against See also:Quebec later in the See also:year. In See also:July 1776 he became See also:colonel in the See also:Continental See also:Army, and served throughout the war. He retired in 1782, and returned to Roxbury, where he died in 1784.
