It is built on a See also:branch of the Fresh See also:Water or See also:Ismailia See also:canal, and on the Al-Mo'izz canal (the See also:ancient Tanitic channel of the See also:Nile), and is 47 M. by See also:rail N.N.E. of See also:Cairo. Situated on the See also:Delta in the midst of a fertile See also:district, Zagazig is a See also:great centre of the See also:cotton and See also:grain See also:trade of Egypt. It has large cotton factories and the offices of numerous See also:European merchants. About a mile See also:south of the town are the ruins of See also:Bubastis (q.v.).
