A See also:correspondence, of considerable extent and of great See also:interest, between Zacharias and St See also:Boniface, the apostle of See also:Germany, is still extant, and shows how great was the influence of this pope on events then passing in See also:France and Germany: he encouraged the deposition of Childeric, and it was with his See also:sanction that Boniface crowned See also:Pippin as king of the See also:Franks at See also:Soissons in 752. Zacharias is stated to have remonstrated with the See also:emperor See also:Constantine Copronymus on the part he had taken in the iconoclastic controversy. He died on the 14th of See also:March 752, and was succeeded by See also:Stephen II.
