AALBORG , a See also:

city and seaport of See also:Denmark, the seat of a See also:bishop, and See also:chief See also:town of the amt (See also:county) of its name, on the See also:south See also:bank of the Limfjord, which connects the See also:North See also:Sea and the See also:Cattegat. Pop. (1901) 31,457. The situation is typical of the north of See also:Jutland. To the See also:west the Limfjord broadens into an irregular See also:AAR See also:lake, with See also:low, marshy shores and many islands. North-west is the See also:Store Vildmose, a swamp where the See also:mirage is seen in summer. South-See also:east lies the similar See also:Lille Vildmose. A railway connects Aalborg with See also:Hjorring, Frederikshavn and Skagen to the north, and with See also:Aarhus and the lines from See also:Germany to the south. The See also:harbour is See also:good and safe, though difficult of See also:access. Aalborg is a growing See also:industrial and commercial centre, exporting See also:grain and See also:fish. An old See also:castle and some picturesque houses of the 17th See also:century remain. The Budolphi See also:church See also:dates mostly from the See also:middle of the 18th century, while the Frue church was partially burnt in 1894, but the See also:foundation of both is of the 14th century or earlier.
