ABERFOYLE , a See also:village and See also:parish of See also:Perthshire, See also:Scotland, 341 M. N. by W. of See also:Glasgow by the See also:North See also:British railway. Pop. of parish (1901) 1052. The village is situated at the See also:base of Craigmore (1271 ft. high) and on the Laggan, a See also:head-See also:water of the Forth. Since 1885, when the See also:duke of See also:Montrose constructed a road over the eastern See also:shoulder of Craigmore to join the older road at the entrance of the See also:Trossachs pass, Aberfoyle has be-come the alternative route to the Trossachs and See also:Loch See also:Katrine. Loch Ard, about 2 M. W. of Aberfoyle, lies 105 ft. above the See also:sea. It is 3 m. See also:long (including the narrows at the See also:east end) and 1 m. broad. Towards the See also:west end is Eilean Gorm (the See also:green isle), and near the north-western See also:shore are the falls of Ledard. Two m. N.W. is Loch Chon, 290 ft. above the sea, I4 m. long, and about 'z m. broad. It drains by the See also:Avon Dhu to Loch Ard, which is drained in turn by the Laggan.
