village and the See also:county-seat of See also:Orleans county, New See also:York, U.S.A., about 30 M. W.N.W. of See also:Rochester. Pop. (1890) 4586; (1900) 4477, (984 being See also:foreign-See also:born and 43 negroes) ; (1905, See also:state See also:census) 5174 ; (1910) 5016. The village is served by the New York Central & See also:Hudson See also:River railway, by the See also:Buffalo, See also:Lockport & Rochester electric railway, and by the See also:Erie See also:Canal. In Albion are the Western See also:House of See also:Refuge for See also:Women (a state institution established in 1890), a public See also:park, the See also:Swan Library, and the county buildings, including the See also:court house, the jail and the See also:surrogate's See also:office; and about 2 M. to the S.E. is the beautiful See also:Mount Albion See also:Cemetery. Albion is the centre of the See also:Medina See also:sandstone See also:industry, and lies in the midst of a See also:good farming region, of which it is the See also:principal See also:shipping point, especially for apples, cabbages and beans. The village manufactures agricultural implements, See also:vinegar, evaporated See also:fruit, and canned fruit and vegetables, and has two large See also:cold-storage houses. Albion was settled in 1812, was incorporated in 1823 and became the county-seat in 1825.
