In 1889, at the instance of his See also:father, who paid the expenses of the tour, he undertook, in See also:company with MM. Bonvalot and Dedecken, a See also:journey through See also:Siberia to See also:Siam. In the course of their travels they crossed the See also:mountain range of See also:Tibet, and the fruits of their observations, submitted to the See also:Geographical Society of See also:Paris (and later incorporated in De Paris au Tonkin a travers le Tibet inconnu, published in 1892), brought them conjointly the See also:gold See also:medal of that society. In 1892 the prince made a See also:short journey of exploration in See also:East See also:Africa, and shortly afterwards visited See also:Madagascar, proceeding thence to See also:Tongking. From this point he set out for See also:Assam, and was successful in discovering the See also:sources of the See also:river See also:Irrawaddy, a brilliant geographical achievement which secured the medal of the Geographical Society of Paris and the See also:cross of the See also:Legion of See also:Honour. In 1897 he revisited See also:Abyssinia, and See also:political See also:differences arising from this trip led to a See also:duel with the See also:comte de See also:Turin, in which both combatants were wounded. While on a trip to Assam in 1901 he died at See also:Saigon on the 9th of See also:August. Prince Henri was a somewhat violent Anglophobe, and his diatribes against See also:Great See also:Britain contrasted rather curiously with the cordial reception which his position as a traveller obtained for him in See also:London, where he was given the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society.
