ARAGUA , one of the smaller states of See also:Venezuela under the redivisionof 1904, lying principally within the parallel ranges of the Venezuelan See also:Cordillera, and comprising some of the most fertile and healthful valleys of the See also:republic. It is bounded E. by the Federal See also:District and See also:Maturin, S. by See also:Guarico and W. by See also:Zamora and See also:Carabobo. Pop. (1905, est.) 152,364. Aragua has a See also:short See also:coast-See also:line on the Caribbean See also:west of the Federal District, but has no p6rt of consequence. See also:Cattle, See also:swine and goats are raised, and the See also:state produces See also:coffee, See also:sugar, cacao, beans, cereals and See also:cheese. The See also:climate of the higher valleys is sub tropical, the mean See also:annual temperature ranging from 740 to 8o° F. The See also:capital, La See also:Victoria (pop. 7800), is situated in the fertile Aragua valley, 1558 ft. above See also:sea-level and 36 m. See also:south-west of See also:Caracas. Other important towns are Barbacoas (pop. 13,109) On the See also:left See also:bank of the Guarico in a highly fertile region, See also:Ciudad de Cura and Maracay (pop. 7500), 56 m. west-south-west of See also:ARAGUAYA Caracas near the See also:north-See also:east See also:shore of See also:Lake See also:Valencia.
