BELLEGARDE , the name of an important See also:

French See also:family. See also:Roger de See also:Saint-Lary, See also:baron of Bellegarde, served with distinction in the See also:wars against the French Protestants. He showed much devotion to See also:Henry III., who loaded him with favours and made him See also:marshal of See also:France. He eventually See also:fell into disgrace, 1 Retires, See also:German soldiers of See also:fortune:. however, and died by poisoning in 1579. His See also:nephew, Roger de Saint-Lary de Termes, a favourite with Henry III., Henry IV. and See also:Louis XIII., was royal See also:master of the See also:horse and See also:governor of See also:Burgundy. His See also:estate of Seurre in Burgundy was created a duchy in the See also:peerage of France (duche-pairie) in his favour under the name of Bellegarde, in 1619. In 1645 the See also:title of this duchy was transferred to the estate of See also:Choisy-aux-Loges in Gatinais, and was See also:borne later by the family of See also:Pardaillan de Gondrin, heirs of the See also:house of Saint-Lary-Bellegarde. When Seurre passed into the See also:possession of the princes of See also:Conde they in the same way acquired the title of See also:dukes of Bellegarde. (M.
