BELLEFONTAINE , a See also:

city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Logan county, See also:Ohio, U.S.A., about 45 M. N.W. of See also:Columbus. Pop. (1890) 4245; (r9oo) 6649 (267 See also:foreign-See also:born); (igio) 8238. It is served by the See also:Cleveland, See also:Cincinnati, See also:Chicago & St See also:Louis (which has large shops here) and the Ohio Central See also:railways; also by the See also:Dayton, See also:Springfield & See also:Urbana electric railway. It is built on the See also:south-See also:west slope of a See also:hill having an See also:elevation of about 1500 ft. above See also:sea-level and at the See also:foot of which are several springs of clear See also:water which suggested the city's name. Among the city's manufactures are See also:iron See also:bridges, See also:carriage-bodies, See also:flour and See also:cement. The See also:municipality owns and operates its water-See also:works See also:system and its See also:gas and electric-See also:lighting See also:plants. Bellefontaine was first settled about 1818, was laid out as a See also:town and made the county-seat in 182o and was incorporated in 1835.
