He first studied See also:architecture, then turned to See also:painting, and worked in See also:Paris and in the Royal See also:Academy at See also:Antwerp. He painted much in See also:England; was a member of the See also:National Academy of See also:Design, and of the American See also:Water Color Society, New See also:York; and an honorary member of the Royal Belgian Society of Water-Colourists. His earlier See also:work was genre, in See also:oils; after 1865 he used water-See also:colours more and more exclusively and painted landscapes. Among his water-colours are " Afternoon in See also:Surrey " (1868); " See also:Sunday in See also:Devonshire " (1876), exhibited at the See also:Philadelphia Exposition; " New England See also:Village School " (1878) ; and " The Parsonage " (1879).
