After studying See also:law at See also:Jena, he went in 1769 to See also:Gottingen, where he became one of the leading See also:spirits in the Gottingen " Dichterbund " or " Hain." Boie's poetical See also:talent was not See also:great, but his thorough knowledge of literaturg, his excellent See also:taste and See also:sound See also:judgment, made him an ideal See also:person to awake the poetical See also:genius of others. Together with F. W. See also:Gotter (q.v.) he founded in 1770 the Gottingen Musenalmanach, which he directed and edited until 1775, when, in See also:conjunction with C. W. von Dohn'i (1751-1$20), he brought out Das deutsche Museum, which became one of the best See also:literary See also:periodicals of the See also:day. In 1776 Boie became secretary to the See also:commander-in-See also:chief at See also:Hanover, and in 1781 was appointed See also:administrator of the province of Siiderditmarschen in Holstein.
