BOOTLE , a municipal and See also:

county See also:borough in the Bootle See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Lancashire, See also:England; at the mouth of the See also:Mersey, forming a See also:northern suburb of See also:Liverpool. Pop. (1901) 58,566; an increase by nearly nine times in See also:forty years. The See also:great docks on this, the See also:east See also:bank of the Mersey, extend into the borough, but are considered as a whole under LIVERPOOL (q.v.). Such features, moreover, as communications, See also:water-See also:supply, &c., may be considered as See also:part of the greater systems of the same See also:city. The See also:chief buildings and institutions are a See also:hand-some See also:town See also:hall, a museum, See also:free See also:libraries, technical See also:schools, and several public See also:pleasure grounds. Bootle was incorporated in 1868 and was created a county borough in 1888; the See also:corporation consists of a See also:mayor, io aldermen and 30 councillors. A proposal to include it within the city of Liverpool was rejected in See also:parliament in See also:July 1903. See also:Area, 1576 acres.
