Here he soon did See also:good service, and made himself remarkable not only for technical skill but the moral qualities indispensable for high command. Becoming See also:captain in 1839, he greatly distinguished himself at the actions of Sidi-Lakhdar and Oued-Melah. In 1845 he became See also:lieutenant-See also:colonel, and in 1847 colonel of a French See also:line See also:regiment. In the following year he was in See also:charge of the See also:Oran See also:district, where his See also:swift suppression of an insurrection won him further promotion to the grade of general of See also:brigade, in whichxank he went through the See also:campaign of Kabulia, receiving a severe See also:wound. In 1853 he returned to See also:France after nineteen years' See also:absence, a general of See also:division. Bosquet was amongst the earliest chosen to serve in the See also:Crimean See also:War, and at the See also:battle of the See also:Alma his division led the French attack. When the Anglo-French troops formed the See also:siege of See also:Sevastopol, Bosquet's See also:corps of two divisions protected them against interruption. His timely intervention at See also:Inkerman (See also:November 5, 1854) secured the victory for the See also:allies. During 1855 Bosquet's corps occupied the right wing of the besieging armies opposite the Mamelon and Malakov. He himself led his corps at the storming of the Mamelon (See also:June 7), and at the See also:grand See also:assault of the 8th of See also:September he was in command of the whole of the storming troops. In the struggle for the Malakov he received another serious wound. At the See also:age of See also:forty-five Bosquet, now one of the foremost soldiers in See also:Europe, became a senator and a marshal of France, but his See also:health was broken, and he lived only a few years longer. He had the grand See also:cross of the See also:Bath, the grand cross of the See also:Legion of See also:Honour, and the Medjidieh of the 1st class.
