CHESHAM , a See also:

market See also:town in the See also:Aylesbury See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Buckinghamshire, See also:England, 26 m. W.N.W. of See also:London by the See also:Metropolitan railway. Pop. of See also:urban See also:district (1901) 7245. It is pleasantly situated in the narrow valley of the See also:river See also:Chess, closely flanked by See also:low wooded hills. The See also:church of St See also:Mary is cruciform and mainly Perpendicular. Some See also:ancient frescoes and numerous monuments are preserved. All sorts of small See also:dairy utensils, chairs, See also:malt-shovels, &c., are made of See also:beech, the growth of which forms a feature of the surrounding See also:country. Shoemaking is also carried on. In Waterside See also:hamlet, adjoining the town, are See also:flour-See also:mills, See also:duck farms, and some of the extensive watercress beds for which the Chess is noted, as it is also for its See also:trout-fishing.
