He saw active service in See also:Algeria, and became chef d'escadron in 1849 and See also:lieutenant-See also:colonel in 185o. He took See also:part as a colonel in the See also:Crimean See also:War, and after the See also:battle of See also:Inkerman received the See also:rank of general of See also:brigade. In 1863 he was promoted general of See also:division. When the Franco-See also:German War See also:broke out in 187o, de Cissey was given a divisional command in the Army of the See also:Rhine, and he was included in the surrender of See also:Bazaine's army at See also:Metz. He was released from captivity only at the end of the war, and on his return was at once appointed by the See also:Versailles See also:government to a command in the army engaged in the suppression of the See also:Commune, a task in the See also:execution of which he displayed See also:great rigour. From See also:July 1871 de Cissey sat as a See also:deputy, and he had already become See also:minister of war. He occupied this See also:post several times during the See also:critical See also:period of the reorganization of the French army. In 188o, whilst holding the command of the XI. See also:corps at See also:Nantes, he was accused of having relations with a certain Baroness Kaula, who was said to be a See also:spy in the pay of See also:Germany, and he was in consequence relieved from See also:duty. An inquiry subsequently held resulted in de Cissey's favour (r881). He died on the 15th of See also:June 1882 at Paris.
