The last sheets of this survey were almost ready for issue in that See also:year when he reached the See also:rank of major-general, and according to the rules of the service had to vacate his survey See also:appointment. He was the inventor of the See also:compensation See also:bar, an apparatus used in See also:base-measurements. He died at New See also:Brighton on the 9th of See also:October 1852.
