FABRIZI, NICOLA (1804-1885) , See also:Italian patriot, was See also:born at See also:Modena on the 4th of See also:April 1804. He took See also:part in the Modena insurrection of 1831, and attempted to succour See also:Ancona, but was arrested at See also:sea and taken to See also:Toulon, whence he proceeded to See also:Marseilles. Afterwards he organized with 114azzini the See also:ill-fated See also:Savoy expedition. Taking See also:refuge in See also:Spain, he fought against the Carlists, and was decorated for valour on the battlefield (18th See also:July 1837). At the end of the Carlist See also:War he established a centre of See also:conspiracy at See also:Malta, endeavoured to dissuade Mazzini from the See also:Bandiera enterprise, but aided See also:Crispi in organizing the Sicilian revolution of 1848: With a See also:company of See also:volunteers he distinguished himself in the See also:defence of See also:Venice, afterwards proceeding to See also:Rome, where he took part in the defence of See also:San Pancrazio. Upon the fall of Rome he returned to Malta, accumulating arms and stores, which he conveyed to See also:Sicily; after having, in 1859, worked with Crispi to prepare the Sicilian revolution of I86o. While See also:Garibaldi wassailing from See also:Genoa towards See also:Marsala Fabrizi landed at Pizzolo, and, after severe fighting, joined Garibaldi at See also:Palermo. Under the Garibaldian Dictatorship he was appointed See also:governor of See also:Messina and See also:minister of war. Returning to Malta after the Neapolitan See also:plebiscite, which he had vainly endeavoured to postpone, he was recalled to aid Cialdini in suppressing See also:brigandage. While on his way to Sicily in 1862, to induce Garibaldi to give up the See also:Aspromonte enterprise, he was arrested at See also:Naples by Lamarmora. During the war of 1866 he became Garibaldi's See also:chief of See also:staff, and in 1867 fought at. Mentana.

parliament he endeavoured to promote agreement between the chiefs. of the See also:Left, and from 1878 onwards worked to secure the return of Crispi to See also:power, but died on the 3rat of See also:March 1885, two years before the realization of his See also:object.
