FRANKENHAUSEN , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the principality of Schwarzburg-See also:Rudolstadt, on an artificial See also:arm of the Wipper, a tributary of the See also:Saale, 36 m. N.N.E. of See also:Gotha. Pop. (1905) 6534. It consists of an old and a new town, the latter mostly rebuilt since a destructive See also:fire in 1833, and has an old See also:chateau of the princes of Schwarzburg, three See also:Protestant churches, a See also:seminary for teachers, a See also:hospital and a See also:modern town-See also:hall. Its See also:industries include the manufacture of See also:sugar, cigars and buttons, and there are brine springs, with See also:baths, in the vicinity. At Frankenhausen a See also:battle was fought on the 15th of May 1525, in which the insurgent peasants under See also:Thomas See also:Munzer were defeated by the allied princes of See also:Saxony and See also:Hesse.
