GELATI , a Georgian monastery in See also:

It was founded in 1109 by the Georgian See also:king See also:David the Renovator. The See also:principal See also:church, a See also:sandstone See also:cathedral, See also:dates from the end of the preceding See also:century, and contains the royal See also:crown of the former Georgian.See also:kingdom of See also:Imeretia, besides See also:ancient See also:MSS., ecclesiological See also:furniture, and See also:fresco portraits of the See also:kings of Imeretia. Here also, in a See also:separate See also:chapel, is the See also:tomb of David the Renovator (1089-1125) and See also:part of the See also:iron See also:gate of the town of Ganja (now See also:Elisavetpol), which that monarch brought away as a See also:trophy of his See also:capture of the See also:place.
