borough of See also:Kent, See also:England, in the See also:parliamentary borough of See also:Chatham and the See also:mid-See also:division of the See also:county, on the See also:Medway immediately See also:east of Chatham, on the See also:South-Eastern & Chatham railway. Pop. (1891) 27,809; (1901) 42,530. Its See also:population is largely See also:industrial, employed in the Chatham See also:dockyards, and in See also:cement and See also:brick See also:works in the neighbourhood. The See also:church of St See also:Mary Magdalene ranges in date from See also:Early See also:English to Perpendicular, retaining also traces of See also:Norman See also:work and some early See also:brasses. A See also:great See also:battle between See also:Edmund Ironside and Canute, c. ro16, is placed here; and there was formerly a See also:palace of the archbishops of See also:Canterbury.
