HARDERWYK , a seaport in the See also:

province of See also:Gelderland, See also:Holland, on the shores of the Zuider Zee, 17 M. by See also:rail N.N.E. of See also:Amersfoort. Pop. (1900) 7425. It is a See also:quaint old See also:town, approached by a See also:fine See also:avenue of trees, and See also:standing in the midst of a patch of fertile ground. Harderwyk is chiefly important as being the See also:depot for recruits for the Dutch colonial See also:army. It contains a small fort and large See also:barracks. The See also:principal buildings are the town See also:hall, with some See also:ancient See also:furniture, a large 15th See also:century See also:church with a notable square See also:tower, a municipal See also:orphan-See also:age, and the See also:Nassau-Veluwe gymnasium. See also:Agriculture, fishing, and a few domestic See also:industries See also:form the only employment of the inhabitants. As a seaport its See also:trade is now confined exclusively to the Zuider Zee.
