JOHANNISBERG , a See also:

village of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Hesse-See also:Nassau, in the Rheingau, on the right See also:bank of the See also:Rhine, 6 m. S. of See also:Rudesheim by railway. The See also:place is mainly celebrated for the beautiful Schloss which crowns a See also:hill overlooking the Rhine valley, and is surrounded by vineyards yielding the famous Johannisberger See also:wine. The Schloss, built in 1757–1759 by the abbots of See also:Fulda on the site of a See also:Benedictine monastery founded in 1090, was bestowed, in 1807, by See also:Napoleon upon See also:Marshal See also:Kellermann. In 1814 it was given by See also:Francis, See also:emperor of See also:Austria, to See also:Prince Metternich, in whose See also:family it still remains.
