town of See also:Russia, in the See also:government of See also:Tambov, on the Lyesnoi See also:Voronezh See also:River, 45 M. W.N.W. of the See also:city of Tambov by See also:rail. Pop. (1900), 41,555. Kozlov had its origin in a small monastery, founded in the See also:forest in 1627; nine years later, an earthwork was raised See also:close by, for the See also:protection of the See also:Russian frontier against the See also:Tatars. Situated in a very fertile See also:country, on the See also:highway to See also:Astrakhan and at the See also:head of See also:water communication with the See also:Don, the town soon became a centre of See also:trade; as the junction of the See also:railways leading to the See also:Sea of See also:Azov, to See also:Tsaritsyn on the See also:lower See also:Volga, to See also:Saratov and to See also:Orel, its importance has recently been still further increased. Its export of See also:cattle, See also:grain, See also:meat, eggs (22,000,000), See also:tallow, hides, &c., is steadily growing, and it possesses factories, See also:flour See also:mills, tallow See also:works, distilleries, tanneries and See also:glue works.
