town of See also:southern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Cordova, 37 M. S.S.E. of Cordova, on the See also:Madrid-See also:Algeciras railway. Pop. (1900) 21,179. Lucena is situated on the Cascajar, a See also:minor tributary of the Genii. The See also:parish See also:church See also:dates from the beginning of the 16th See also:century. The See also:chief See also:industries are the manufacture of matches, See also:brandy, See also:bronze lamps and pottery, especially the large earthenware jars (tinajas) used throughout Spain for the storage of oil and See also:wine, some of which hold more than 300 gallons. There is considerable See also:trade in agricultural produce, and the See also:horse See also:fair is famous throughout See also:Andalusia. Lucena was taken from the See also:Moors See also:early in the 14th century; it was in the See also:attempt to recapture it that See also:King See also:Boabdil of See also:Granada was taken prisoner in 1483.
