LYALLPUR , a See also:

district of See also:India, in the See also:Multan See also:division of the See also:Punjab. It was constituted in 1904 to comprise the "See also:Chenab See also:Colony," being the See also:waste portion of the former See also:Jhang district that is now irrigated by the See also:Lower Chenab See also:canal. See also:Area, 3075 sq. m.; pop. (1906) 654,666. It is traversed by a See also:section of the See also:North-western railway. The headquarters are at Lyallpur See also:town (pop. in 1906, 13,483), named after See also:Sir See also:James See also:Lyall, a See also:lieutenant-See also:governor. It contains several factories for ginning and pressing See also:cotton. See Chenab Colony Gazetteer (See also:Lahore, 1904).
