He was See also:joint editor of the See also:Christian See also:Remembrancer, but withdrew from the position because of his substantial agreement with the famous Gorham decision. He was one of the earliest supporters of the See also:Guardian. In 1856 he became See also:vicar of See also:Shoreham, in 1869 See also:canon of See also:Worcester, and in 1871 regius See also:professor of divinity at Oxford. He died at Shoreham on the 4th of See also:January 1878. He wrote A See also:Treatise on the Augustinian See also:Doctrine of See also:Predestination (1835); The See also:Primitive Doctrine of Baptismal Regeneration (1856); A See also:Review of the Baptismal Controversy (1862); Subscription to the Articles: a See also:Letter (1863); Lectures on Miracles, being the See also:Bampton Lectures for 1865; and Ruling Ideas in See also:Early Ages and their relation to the Old Testament Faith (1877). Essays, See also:Historical and Theo-logical, appeared in 1878 (2 vols.), with a See also:biographical See also:preface by his See also:sister See also:Anne, who also edited some of his Letters (1884).
