Naini Tal is a popular See also:sanatorium for the residents in the plains, and the summer See also:head-quarters of the See also:government of the See also:province. It is situated on a See also:lake, surrounded by high mountains, and is subject to landslides; a serious See also:catastrophe of this See also:kind occurred in See also:September 1880. The approach from the plains is by the See also:Rohilkhand and Kumaon railway from See also:Bareilly, which has its See also:terminus at Kathgodam, 22 M. distant by See also:cart road.
