SONDERBURG , a seaport and seaside resort of See also:

Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Schleswig-See also:Holstein, on the S.W. See also:coast of the See also:island of See also:Alsen, of which it is the See also:chief See also:town, and 17 M. by steamboat N.E. from Flensburg. Pop. (1905), 7047. It is connected with the mainland by a See also:pontoon See also:bridge, and. has a See also:castle, now used as See also:barracks, in the beautiful See also:chapel of which many members of the Sonderburg-Augustenburg See also:line See also:lie buried; a Lutheran See also:church and a town See also:hall. There is an excellent See also:harbour, and a considerable See also:shipping See also:trade is done. The town, which existed in the See also:middle of the 13th See also:century, was burnt down in 1864 during the See also:assault by the Prussians upon the Diippler trenches.
