SOUTHSEA , a seaside resort of See also:

Hampshire, See also:England, See also:part of the municipal and See also:parliamentary See also:borough of See also:Portsmouth, with a terminal station (See also:East Southsea) on a See also:branch of the See also:London & See also:South-Western and London, See also:Brighton & South See also:Coast See also:railways. It forms the See also:southern and residential See also:quarter of Portsmouth, and overlooks Spithead, the inlet of the See also:English Channel between the Isle of See also:Wight and the mainland on the See also:north-east. There are two piers, and a See also:parade along the See also:sea-See also:wall; and the sea-bathing is See also:good. Southsea, See also:Castle was built by See also:Henry VIII. at the southern extremity of Portsea See also:Island.
