prompts the members of a See also:family to commit fresh crimes to obtain See also:satisfaction. These crimes necessitate further acts of vengeance, and the curse is thus transmitted from See also:generation to generation. The word is also used for a See also:man's evil See also:genius, which drives him to See also:sin without any provocation; a man so driven is sometimes called Alastor. The epithet is applied to See also:Zeus and the See also:Erinyes as the deities of revenge and See also:punishment.
