AMMONIUS HERMIAE (5th See also:century A.D.) , See also:Greek philosopher, the son of See also:Hermias or Hermeias, a See also:fellow-See also:pupil of See also:Proclus. He taught at See also:Alexandria, and had among his scholars Asclepius, See also: A See also:life of Aristotle, ascribed to Ammonius, but with more accuracy to John Philoponus, is often prefixed to See also:editions of Aristotle. It has been printed separately, with Latin See also:translation and scholia, at See also:Leiden, 1621, at Helmstadt, 1666, and at See also:Paris, r85o. Other commentaries on the Topics and the first six books of the See also:Meta-physics still exist in See also:manuscript. Of the value of the logical writings of Ammonius there are various opinions.
