AMYNTAS II . (or III.), son of Arrhidaeus, See also:

great-See also:grandson of See also:Alexander I., See also:king of See also:Macedonia from 393 (or 389) to 369 B.C. He came to the See also:throne after the ten years of confusion which followed the See also:death of See also:Archelaus, the See also:patron of See also:art and literature, and showed the same See also:taste for See also:Greek culture and its representatives. But he had many enemies at See also:home; in 383 he was driven out by the Illyrians, but in the following See also:year, with the aid of the Thessalians, he recovered his See also:kingdom. He concluded a treaty with the Spartans, who assisted him to reduce See also:Olynthus (379)• He also entered into a See also:league with See also:Jason of Pherae, and assiduously cultivated the friendship of See also:Athens. By his wife, See also:Eurydice, he had three sons, the youngest of whom was the famous See also:Philip of Macedon. Diodorus xiv. 89, xv. 19, 6o; See also:Xenophon, Hellenica, v. 2; See also:Justin vii. 4.
