He entered the See also:church and made his way by his wit and cleverness, until he was appointed See also:tutor, and then became the friend and adviser, of Gaston d'See also:Orleans, See also:brother of Louis XIII. He thus gained an entrance to the See also:court, became See also:grand See also:almoner of the See also:queen, and received the See also:revenue of See also:rich abbeys. In See also:March 1655 he was named bishop of See also:Langres, but he spent his See also:time at court, where his wit was always in demand, and where he gained See also:great sums by gambling. He died very rich.
