In this capacity he did much to advance See also:Christianity and native See also:education in India, especially by organizing systematic See also:translations of the Scriptures. An See also:account of his travels in the See also:south and See also:west of India, which added considerably to our knowledge of nature See also:life, is given in his See also:Christian Researches in See also:Asia (Cambridge, 181 I). After his return to See also:England in 18o8, he still took an active See also:part in matters connected with India, and by his See also:book entitled Colonial Ecclesiastical See also:Establishment (See also:London, 1813), he assisted in settling the controversy of 1813, which ended in the establishment of the See also:Indian episcopate.
