He concerned himself little with politics. He was, however, a member of the See also:council-See also:general of See also:Vienne for six years, but was expelled from it in 1840 in consequence of his advanced ideas and his relations with the Opposition. In 1848 he was elected See also:deputy from Vienne to the Constituent See also:Assembly by 12,000 votes. He was an active member of the Archaeological Society of See also:Touraine and the Society of Antiquaries of the See also:West, and wrote learned See also:works for these bodies. He collaborated in preparing the archives of the scientific See also:congress at See also:Tours in 1847; brought out two See also:editions of the See also:MSS. of his See also:great-See also:grand-See also:uncle, the See also:minister of See also:foreign affairs under See also:- LOUIS
