N.E. by N. of See also:Bergen, in the See also:latitude of the See also:Faeroe Islands. Pop. (1901) 11,982. It is built on four small islands, by which its See also:harbour is enclosed. The See also:chief exports are See also:wood, See also:cod, See also:herrings and See also:fish products, and See also:butter to See also:Great See also:Britain. The See also:town is served by the See also:principal steamers between the See also:south See also:Norwegian ports, See also:Hull, See also:Hamburg, &c., and See also:Trondhjem, and it is the chief See also:port of the See also:district of Nordmore. See also:Local steamers serve the neighbouring fjords, including the Sundalsfjord, from which at Sundalsoren a See also:driving road past the See also:fine Dovrefjeld connects with the See also:Gudbrandsdal route. Till 1i42, when it received town privileges from See also:Christian VI., Christiansund was called See also:Lille-Fosen.
