DELBRUCK, HANS (1848— ) , See also:German historian, was See also:born at See also:Bergen on the See also:island of Ri.igen on the 11th of See also:November 1848, and studied at the See also:universities of See also:Heidelberg and See also:Bonn. As a soldier he fought in the Franco-German See also:War, after which he was for some years See also:tutor to one of the princes of the German imperial See also:family. In 1885 he became See also:professor of See also:modern See also:history in the university of See also:Berlin, and he was a member of the German Reichstag from 1884 to 1890. Delbruck's writings are chiefly concerned with the history of the See also:art of war, his most ambitious See also:work being his Geschichte der Kriegskunst See also:im Rahmen der politischen Geschichte (first See also:section, Das Altertum, 1900; second, Romer and Germanen, 1902; third, Das Mittelalter, 1907). Among his other See also:works are: See also:Die Perserkriege and die Burgunderkriege (Berlin, 1887); Historische and politische Aufsatze (1886); Erinnerungen, Aufsatze and Reden (1902); Die Strategie See also:des Perikles erldutert durch die Strategic Friedrichs des Grossen (1890); Die Polenfrage (1894); and Das Leben des Feldmarschalls Grafen Neithardt von See also:Gneisenau (1882 and 1894). Delbriick began in 1883 to edit the Preussische Jahrbucher, in which he has written many articles, including one on " See also:General See also:Wolseley fiber See also:Napoleon, See also:Wellington and Gneisenau," and he has contributed to the Europaischer Geschichtskalender of H. Schulthess.
