EICHHORN, KARL See also:FRIEDRICH (1781-1854) , See also:German jurist, son of the preceding, was See also:born at See also:Jena on the 20th of See also:November 1781. He entered the university of See also:Gottingen in 1797. In 18o5 he obtained the professorship of See also:law at See also:Frankfort-on-See also:Oder, holding it till 1811, when he accepted the same See also:chair at See also:Berlin. On the See also:call to arms in 1813 he became a See also:captain of See also:horse, and received at the end of the See also:war the decoration of the See also:Iron See also:Cross. In 1817 he was offered the chair of law at Gottingen, and, preferring it to the Berlin professorship, taught there with See also:great success till See also:ill-See also:health compelled him to resign in 1828. His successor in the Berlin chair having died in 1832, he again entered on its duties, but resigned two years afterwards. In 1832 he also received an See also:appointment in the See also:ministry of See also:foreign affairs, which, with his labours on many See also:state committees and his legal re-searches and writings, occupied him till his See also:death at See also:Cologne on the 4th of See also:July 1854. Eichhorn is regarded as one of the See also:principal authorities on German constitutional law. His See also:chief See also:work is Deutsche Staats- and Rechtsgeschichte (Gottingen, 18o8-1823, 5th ed. 1843-1844). In See also:company with See also:Savigny and J. F.

Goschen he founded the Zeitschrift See also:fur geschichtliche Rechtswissenschaft. He was the author besides of Einleitung in das deutsche Privatrecht mit Einschluss See also:des Lehnrechts (Gott., 1823) and the Grunds¢tze des Kirchenrechts der Katholischen and der Evangelischen Religionspartei in Deutschland, 2 Bde.
