At the outbreak of the See also:War of Liberation in 1813, he joined the See also:army; quickly attaining the See also:rank of See also:captain; and by his war-songs added to the See also:national See also:enthusiasm. On the conclusion of the war he was appointed See also:professor at the school of See also:engineering and See also:artillery in See also:Berlin, but on See also:account of some democratic writings he was dismissed from this See also:office in 1817. He then became connected with various See also:journals until about 1829, when he received an See also:appointment at the royal museum in Berlin, with the See also:title of See also:court councillor (Hofrat). He was the founder and secretary of the Wissenschaftlicher Kunstverein in Berlin, and died in Berlin on the 8th of See also:November ,868. Jahrhundert (Potsdam, 1836-1839); Leben and Taten Friedrichs des Grossen (See also:Meissen, 1840-1842); Wallensteins Prozess (Leipzig, 1844); and Preussens Heiden in Krieg and Frieden, neuere and neueste preussische Geschichte, 7 volumes (Berlin, 1849-186o). The three concluding volumes of this See also:work contain the history of the war of liberation of 1813-14-15. He brought out an edition of See also:Hegel's works, adapted several of See also:Shakespeare's plays for the See also:theatre, wrote a number of poems and an See also:historical See also:drama, Gustav Adolf (Berlin, 1832). Many of his lesser writings were collected and published as Kriegslieder, Romanzen, Erzahlungen and Legenden (Berlin, 1838). The beginning of an autobiography of Forster, edited by H.
