IGUALADA , a See also:

town of See also:north-eastern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Barcelona, on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river Noya, a right-See also:hand tributary of the Llobregat, and at the See also:northern See also:terminus of the Igualada-Martorell-Barcelona railway. Pop. (1900) 10,442. Igualada is the central See also:market of a See also:rich agricultural and See also:wine-producing See also:district. It consists of an old town with narrow and irregular streets and the remains of a fortress and ramparts, and a new town which possesses See also:regular and spacious streets and many See also:fine houses. The See also:local See also:industries, chiefly See also:developed since 188o, include the manufacture of See also:cotton, See also:linen, See also:wool, See also:ribbons, See also:cloth, See also:chocolate, See also:soap, brandies, See also:leather, See also:cards and nails. The famous See also:mountain and See also:convent of See also:Montserrat or Monserrat (q.v.) is 12 M. E.
