S.S.W. of See also:Leeds, on the See also:Great See also:Northern and See also:London & See also:North-Western See also:railways. Pop. (1901), 23,636. The See also:town-See also:hall was opened in 1895; and a See also:park, for which the ground was presented by See also:Lord See also:Dartmouth, in 1890. The See also:chief See also:industries are connected with woollen See also:cloth, machinery for the treatment of See also:wool, See also:coal and See also:stone. The borough, incorporated in 1885, is under a See also:mayor, 7 aldermen and 21 councillors. See also:Area, 3385 acres. In the neighbourhood are ruins of a See also:mansion, Howley Hall, dating from 1590, which, garrisoned for the See also:parliament, sustained a heavy See also:siege from the royalists during the See also:Civil See also:War.
